“Whenever I think of death, I think of it as a very scary thing but also peaceful. A break from the horrors of life and a time to finally rest. During one of the worst battles with suicidal ideation I've ever had, I saw death as an escape from the world that had delivered me so much pain and heartbreak. I put those feelings into the painting; the struggle between wanting to stick around and see what else life holds for you and just wanting to end it all and finally be at peace is something I still struggle with to this day, and I wanted to portray that struggle in this painting.” Malachi Fedunak
